Australian Women

Tony has coached athletes in many countries directly or by correspondence over the years. Many started as teenagers. Not mentioned here are the many triathletes who have represented their country in various age group categories because there are simply too many to list.



Nadelle Legge (Gregg)

Three time Australia Duathlon Champion and World Duathlon Championship representative; the 2003 Devonport Half Iron(Wo)man winner and the 2003 Melbourne Half Marathon Champion. Nadelle started with training with Tony in 1999 and, with the assistance of her husband Patrick, has ever since. Patrick, a masseur, is also an important member of the Endurance Performance Systems program.



 Sarah Grahame (left) 

Sarah competes in everything from aquathons to duathlons, triathlons and track, road and cross-country races. Her most recent achievements include winning the 2004 Zatopek and Australian U18 3000m steeplechase, the 2005 Melbourne Rialto run and gaining selection in the Australian team for the 2006 World Schools XC and World Junior XC as well as the World Junior Track & Field Team in the 3000m steeplechase.


Madeleine Pape (right)

A former football boundary umpire Madeleine (in yellow) won the 2005 Australian U23 800m Championship in her first full track season. Now training with another coach Madeleine achieved 2008 Olympic representation.


Ann Martin 

World Championship Duathlon Representative, a 9:48 hour Iron(Wo)man and multi time Hawaii competitor. Anne started running with Tony in 1983 (see right) and became a State Country run champion. After taking a break to develop her career she resumed training with Tony in 1994 and went on become an outstanding multi event athlete. In 2002 she moved successfully into coaching and is still very competitive at an age group level.


  Emma Carney

Tony coached Emma with her running during 1993 and 1994 as she made the transition from running to triathlon. Her standout run performance was a 33:20 10k just prior to winning the 1994 World Triathlon Championship.


Sharon Stewart 

Sharon (in green) started training with Tony in Ballarat in 1983 and went on to represent Australia on many occassions. The most notable were: the 1985 & 1989 World Cup, the 1885 Pacific Conference Games, the 1986 and 1990 Commonwealth Games, the 1991 World Indoor and Outdoor Championships and the 1992 Olympic Games.

She held the Australian 800m indoor record, won Commonwealth Games Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and is a five time Australian champion of 400m (2) and 800m (3).

  Michelle Baumgartner (left) 

A highly talented junior who retired for a number of years Michelle started training with Tony in July 1989 and become a 1990 Commonwealth Games 1500m finalist. She recorded 800m and 1500m pb's during this time.



Kathy Sambell (right with Kathy Freeman)

1990 Commonwealth Games 200m Finalist, 1990 Commonwealth G's 4x100m Relay Gold Medalist, 1991 World Championship 4x100m Relay Finalist, 1992 Olympic 4x100m Relay Finalist, 1992 World Cup 4x100m Relay Representative.
