Ascot Vale Leisure Centre TriClub
Barb Augustin manages this joint program between Ascot Vale Leisure Centre (AVLC) and Benson's Running & Triathlon.
The program is for 52 weeks (commencing date April/May every year) and is fully periodised to bring you up to peak fitness by the triathlon season.
The program also includes guest appearances by:
- Tony Benson.
- Ben Hiddlestone, an assistant coach to the famed Dennis Cottrell (of Grant Hackett fame) and now Head Coach of the Narre Warren Casey Tiger Sharks. Ben has coached Grant Hackett, Michael Klim, Giann Rooney, Scott Miller, Daniel Kowalski, Ky Hurst and Aust Champ Triathlete: Bryce Quirk.
- Mark Gibson, of Doutta Galla Yoga Studio. Mark is respected Senior teacher within Melbourne's Iyengar yoga community. Mark helps us out in the areas of posture, alignment and full aeration of the lungs, as well as the more obvious areas of stretching and strengthening.
By the end of January, if you have completed the whole program you will be able to easily complete a number of triathlons of lengths up to 400m swim-16k bike-4k run. If you've trained with us for over one season, you could compete in races up to 800m-20-5.
The level of the program is aimed at beginners and intermediates. You can participate in individual sessions; however, full benefits are gained by completing the whole program.
Venues: Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, Queens Park, Sandridge Beach and Studley Park.
Session times:
- Monday 6am - swim - Queens Park (summer), AVLC (winter)
- Tuesday 6am - spin - (indoor cycling - AVLC)
- Wednesday 6am - swim - Queens Park (summer), AVLC (winter)
- Thursday 6am - run - AVLC
- Friday 6:30pm - swim - Sandridge Beach (during daylight saving months only)
- Saturday 8:15am - Run (Boathouse Cafe, Studley Park)
- Sunday 7am - ride (various locations)
Cost: $10 per session or $60 for a 10 visit pass.
